Apixio is Hiring a Remote Population Health Data Analyst

Who We Are:

Apixio is advancing healthcare with data-driven intelligence and analytics. Our Artificial Intelligence platform gives organizations across the healthcare spectrum the power to mine clinical information at scale, creating novel insights that will change the way healthcare is measured, care is delivered, and discoveries are made.

Apixio is looking for a data analyst to help with the development of population health analytics (e.g., patient segmentation, risk stratification) that leverage the huge volumes of data which we handle from our customers. The ideal candidate is one with experience within a payer and/or a provider organization with an understanding of the healthcare industry and the metrics that matter for value-based care. This is a foundational role within a small, talented team with the opportunity to make a huge impact in a growing organization.

What you will own

  • Identify data either from customers, third parties, or publicly available sources that would contribute to population health metrics or value-based care dashboards
  • Design highly performant data models that can accommodate these data sources and cater to end-users requirements
  • Develop data pipelines to ingest, transform, and store data from such sources into the analytical data warehouse by collaborating with DevOps and data engineering teams
  • Analyze large volumes of data to identify patterns and trends that pertain to improving health or financial outcomes, e.g., disease prevalence, risk factors, and the effectiveness of health interventions
  • Identify metrics that matter for clients from a value-based care or a population health perspective to improve the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of healthcare services, care coordination and disease management
  • Partner with product and engineering teams to design and develop dashboards with the appropriate level of details targeted at different levels of end-users within the customer teams

What you bring to the table

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Analytics, Health Informatics or an equivalent field
  • At least 3 years of analytics development experience working within a payer, provider, or an accountable care organization
  • At least 3 years of experience writing complex SQL queries and Python ETL pipelines using Airflow or other data orchestration tools
  • Comfortable with different healthcare data types such as: claims, encounters, enrollment, clinical, pharmacy, contract, SDoH, and financial data from payers / providers
  • Expertise with public data and data sent to payers / providers / ACOs by CMS, and how to utilize the same for benchmarking and measuring value-based care performance
  • Experience building population health metrics for a payer / provider / ACO by combining multiple sources of data
  • Experience building dashboards around cost, quality, risk, and utilization metrics of patient populations
  • Knowledge and experience working with a data visualization tool such as Looker, PowerBI, Tableau, or other open source tools
  • Ability to lead and complete projects independently once given objective and direction
  • Ability to independently look for resourceful solutions and enhancements; and communicate any issues timely if they arise, and present solutions to the problems
  • Knowledge of and experience with Medicare and Commercial risk adjustment analytics, CMS risk score and payment models
  • Experience building reporting and analytical data warehouses
  • Strong communication skills to partner with data integration, engineering, DevOps, customer success, and product teams and collect technical and business requirements
  • High agency, integrity, ownership, and curiosity

What success will look like

  • In 1 month: you have understood the various data sources across Apixio
  • In 3 months: you have built data pipelines to bring more data into the analytics warehouse
  • In 6 months: you have partnered with the product team to build at least one customer-facing dashboard for population health
